What is the Difference Between Class 1 and Class 2 Filters?

Learn about the difference between Class 1 and Class 2 air filters and how to select the right one for your needs.

What is the Difference Between Class 1 and Class 2 Filters?

Compressed air is an essential part of many industries, from food production to powering pneumatic tools. To ensure the air quality meets the necessary standards, Atlas Copco's next generation of filters offer best-in-class performance, reliability and lifespan. The Minimum Efficiency Rating Value (MERV) rating of an air filter measures how effectively it prevents dust and other contaminants from passing through.

MERV

ratings range from 1 to 16, with higher indexes trapping small particles more efficiently.Class 1 air requires that the air has 400,000 particles or less with a size of 0.1 to 0.5 microns, 6000 particles or less with a size of 0.5 to 1 micron and 100 particles or less with a size of 1 to 5.Class 2 air only requires that the air has 400,000 particles or less with a size of 0.1 to 0.5 microns, 6000 particles or less with a size of 0.5 to 1 micron and 100 particles or less with a size of 1 to 5.Class 3 does not even specify a quantity from the first category and, starting with class 6, the ISO standard only specifies the mass concentration of particles in milligrams per cubic meter. When selecting a filter for your compressed air system, it is important to know what ISO class your compressed air must meet.

Simply search for the ISO class when selecting a filter to ensure you get the right one for your needs.
